Clonmel, Tipperary
One of the difficulties of having historic buildings lying around all over a modern town is how to manage the traffic. Fortunately the arch in the West Gate of the old medieval city walls of Clonmel is big enough to allow for traffic, at least one way.
Remnants of the original 13th century wall can still be seen here and there. This bit now separates a church from a carpark.
Clonmel is a lovely place. The river Suir runs along the southern side of the city centre, with a short suburban sprawl reaching across to the other bank.
I liked the houses along the river. I'm particularly taken with the retrofitted insulation technology on the outside of the building. Even in summer it was cool and miserable enough to convince me that all Clonmel houses should wear lush green coats.
