Glacier National Park - Waterfalls

You may have noticed from a number of earlier posts that I have a particular fondness for waterfalls. Glacier National Park caters for this taste admirably.



Here, just below Sunrift Gorge, you can see some of that strange, almost tropical turquoise colour in the water.


Birdwoman Falls runs down from an old glacial valley, all the way past the the Going-to-the-sun-road. Several falls, like the ones below, tumble directly down the wall of the road.




This presented some interesting challenges in the construction of the road, such as how to capture and divert the water from one side of the road, underneath the surface, and on down the mountainside. A typical example of the solution is pictured below. Sometimes, not very often, I wish I had studied engineering instead of psychology. This was one of those moments.
