River Cam

The complete Cambridge tourist experience must include punting on the Cam. The guided tour of the Cam was one of the highlights of the trip for me.

The river itself, and the boats upon it, are incredibly picturesque.

There are lots of cool private bridges that the Colleges have built.

Observant Harry Potter fans may recognise the spot below as the place where Harry takes his first flying lesson.

Below is Adolf Hitler's favourite building in Cambridge. I'm not kidding. See the eagle over the entrance? Hitler liked it so much he arranged for Cambridge not to be bombed in WWII so that his birdie wouldn't be damaged.

Below is the Mathematical Bridge. All the timbers are straight, yet the bridge is curved. Those clever engineers.

I guess the locals aren't so impressed by the whole thing. For them the Cam is just a way to get around ... and to move their vacuum cleaners.
