Trim Castle, Ireland

People with good memories and imaginations may recognise the castle below as the one from which Edward Longshanks tossed his son's boyfriend out the window in Braveheart. They told us all about it on the tour.

I can verify that this is so, because we immediately hit Blockbuster to confirm. It definitely is Trim Castle.

The city of Trim was particularly clever about the location of its old city walls. You can see a remnant of an old entrance gate on the right. On the left, where the bridge is, is the only fording point on the river for quite a long way in either direction. If you wanted to get your horse, or stock, across that river, you were going to visit the city of Trim.
