Utah Hwy 12 - Red Canyon

Highway 12 in Utah is another of the scenic highways and byways detailed in my National Geographic guidebook. On my way to the start of the drive I passed the Big Rock Candy Mountain, named for the 1928 song about a Hobo's paradise.

As cool as that was, the gateway to Highway 12 was even more impressive. Red Canyon is a dramatic valley filled with bright red rock formations. It looks like parts of Australia, don't you think? I wandered around the paved trail for a while and felt suddenly homesick.
