Old Sacramento, California

Sacramento began in 1839 with a small settlement that grew rapidly because of its convenient location on the river. Although "new" Sacramento is a big, modern city, it remembers its roots with Old Sacramento. This 28 acres, with 53 historic buildings allows the passing Australian to stroll down authentic looking boardwalks, admire restored and preserved storefronts, maybe swagger just a little bit on the way back to where the Cream Puff is hitched and practice quick-drawing the camera out of its holster.

You can take a ride on a riverboat.

Or any other type of period transportation that takes your fancy.

I only stopped for lunch in Old Sacramento, but it was still an interesting stop. On weekends there are period activities and I'm sure it's a lot of fun.
